BATH
PRIMARY KICK-OFF WITH WIN
from the Bath Chronicle 15:00 - 30 September 2003
|
Bath Primary Schools' FA representative side
secured a 4-3 victory over Gosport & Fareham
in their first ever fixture against district
opposition. The Bath Chronicle-sponsored team got
off to a great start against their opponents from
Hampshire at the University of Bath.
|
 | It took just
five minutes for the impressive Lewis Hunt (Weston All
Saints Primary) to give Bath the lead after Joseph
Symonds (Southdown Primary) had set him
up.
Symonds was unfortunate to see his fine
effort hit the post but another goal was
inevitable.
Ernie Peibst (Corsham Primary) drove
forward from midfield to make it 2-0 and then Richard
Watkins (Chandag Junior) crossed for Hunt to score the
third from close range.
The second half saw a
rejuvenated Gosport & Fareham pull one back thanks
to a fine strike past goalkeeper Sam Butler (St
Phillip's).
The visitors scored another after
Richard Watkins brought down a player in the
area.
That acted as a wake-up call for Bath who
subsequently won a penalty themselves, which Peibst
converted with ease.
Gosport & Fareham scored
again late on to set-up an exciting finish but Bath were
worthy winners.
Coach Tim Kirk said: "The
football played in the first half was especially
impressive considering the short amount of time the boys
have known each other.
"We want to expose them to
the highest standard of football possible and have lined
up friendly fixtures against various academies, the
first being against Bristol City Academy Under
11."
