Today’s fixture was
the accumulation of months of hard work, which has seen the
arrival of two exciting development squads for young
footballers in Bath.
A crowd of over 80 were fortunate to
witness an impressive game of football which brought together
most of the best footballers in Bath in these age groups for
the first time.
Despite the age difference it was clear
from the very beginning that Bath Schools’ were going to prove
to be a real test for their older counterparts. Twice Bath
Schools’ came close to scoring in the opening 15 minutes and
could have had a penalty when Lewis Hunt was brought down in
the area. Team Bath responded with a superb move which saw
Jack Harvey almost score with a volley after a great cross
from Daniel; Kohn.
Eventually, it was Team Bath who were
to break the deadlock through Alex Dixon whose powerful strike
was too much for impressive goalkeeper Sam Butler. Although
Bath schools’ pressed hard for an equaliser the Team Bath
defence stood firm and they were unable to convert good
possession into a goal scoring opportunity.
“Today’s friendly could not have worked
out any better and in the end the result was irrelevant. The
attitude of players on both teams was superb and the football
played was a pleasure to witness. It was certainly a great
advert for youth football in Bath and we had many comments
from parents saying how impressed they were with the standard;
there were more people watching the game today than most
Screwfix sides!”
“Both teams have set a high standard
for themselves now and so it will be interesting to see how
they progress over the season.”
