Tillson was named man of the match as Bath Primary
Schools' representative side resumed their fixtures on
Saturday with a 0-0 draw against the Vale of White
Horse. After eight weeks without a game, The Bath
Chronicle-sponsored team were keen to get the new year
off to a good start with a victory.
Indeed, it
was Bath who started the stronger by putting pressure
immediately on Vale's defence.
Oswin and Hunt,
the two Bath strikers, continually harassed the Vale
back line but could not convert their accurate passing
and hard work into a clear goal scoring
opportunity.
With Bath's early domination
bringing no goals, Vale began to compete with more
determination and their efforts were nearly rewarded
with a goal when their central midfield player hit the
crossbar from 20 yards.
With both sides now
evenly matched, the score finished 0-0 at
half-time.
The second half continued in the same
manner as the first with neither side giving much
away.
The long Christmas break seemed to be
taking its toll as players became weary and the ball was
to be found all too often in the air.
However,
with the re-introduction of striker Will Oswin and with
the tireless running of Tillson, Bath managed to put
some good passing moves together.
Bath almost
snatched victory in the last minute when Oswin raced
clear but a good save and a clearance by a defender kept
the game goalless.
Coach Tim Kirk said: "Although
the football played was not great, it was good to get
the lads together again.
"They did well
considering the long break they have had.
"We
have two big games against Plymouth and Portsmouth
coming up in the next couple of weeks, so we'll see what
we can do about their form and
fitness."
