The Bath Primary Schools
representative side's first game of 2004 ended in
disappointment when they went down 1-0 to Swindon.
Despite not playing together for nine weeks, the
Bath Chronicle-sponsored team made an excellent
start and should have gone ahead after 10
minutes.
A swift passing move, which began
on the edge of the Bath 18-yard box, ended with
Lewis Hunt racing clear and shooting against the
near post.
Swindon responded by trying to
use the strong wind to their advantage to get in
behind the Bath defence.
But some
outstanding goalkeeping from Sam Butler kept the
scores level.
As the weather took a turn
for the worse, the quality of the football
deteriorated slightly with both sides finding it
difficult to keep the ball.
It was during
this period that the only goal of the game was
scored, when a rare defensive mistake allowed the
home team to score.
Despite determined
performances from man-of-the-match Jordan Tillson
and fellow midfielder Bradley Norris, Bath were
unable to find the back of the Swindon
net.
Coach Tim Kirk said: "It was
devastating to lose and I know that the boys are
very disappointed.
"To play well and not
get the rewards is always frustrating, but we do
need to create more chances and be more clinical
in front of goal.
"We have a lot of games
coming up including six games in six days at the
national festival in Jersey, so the boys will have
ample opportunity to put things
right."
Bath Primary Schools' next game is
on Saturday against Plymouth at the university
(11.30am
kick-off).
