Gloucester notched three
hard-fought Cotswold League points on their first ever
visit to Bath, though they needed to withstand a good
deal of second half pressure from the hosts. Despite
playing up the slope in the first half Bath, who had
achieved an impressive draw at Bristol last week, looked
the more dangerous and took the lead on ten minutes,
Harvey bundling the ball home from close range after
some poor defending from the visitors. Harding went
close to providing an equaliser when his well struck
drive flew just over the bar, but the leveller finally
came on 25 minutes. The same player's corner was knocked
back to him by Mace and a fine cross to the far post was
converted by Callum Preece. Four minutes later it was
2-1, Ford and James-Bryan combining to send Harding away
and the centre forward applied an excellent finish for
his eighth strike of the season. After the break it was
Bath who enjoyed most of the possession and twice James
was forced into action while Stroud-Drinkwater cleared
off the line to prevent an equaliser. The visitors
however continued to look dangerous on the break, Miller
and Hamilton setting up the impressive Harding whose
effort went narrowly wide, while Mace saw his drive come
back off a post. Back at the other end Callum Preece,
now being employed at centre back made two vital
interceptions as Gloucester just managed to hang on to
all three points. Gloucester: James; Miller, B.Preece,
Harris, Stroud-Drinkwater, Dillon; Hamilton, Ford, Mace;
C.Preece, Harding. Sub: James-Bryan.
