Bath Lose out to Swindon

Photos by David Rowlands

Bath Primary Schools lost out to Swindon Primary Schools in an evenly contested and physical match with the visitors winning 5-3 at the University of Bath.

A strong Swindon side started the better and got an early goal after their left winger went straight through the Bath defence. But Bath came back well and got a deserved goal when Bradley Norris  (Oldfield  Park) put in a long centre which Will Oswin (Newbridge) finished in style.  However Swindon were dominating in midfield and causing problems for the Bath defence. Without the good play of Man of the Match Jamie Smithies Bath would have been in more trouble. Swindon replied with a tap in goal and an excellent shot from 30 yards that left goalkeeper George Wightman helpless.    Although trailing 3-1 at half-time Bath felt they could get back into the match. A much more determined display by Bath in the second half saw them outplay Swindon and get back into the game. With Norris and Jack Rowlands (St Stephens) controlling midfield Bath attacked for much of the rest of the match. A fine through ball by Rowlands left Lee Hedges (Chandag ) with a chance he coolly put away. A close offside decision went against Bath when they thought they had scored through Oswin. Then a great bit of dribbling by Norris saw him race through the Swindon defence and score a brilliant goal. Bath were now on top and thought they might win the game.

Swindon got back into it through poor defending from a corner and despite a great save from Joe Davies (WASPS) the rebound fell kindly for the Swindon attacker to make it 4-3.  A further goal followed as Bath got tired at the end of the match and the final score of 5-3 was a bit harsh on a good Bath team display.
