Bath Schools’ U11 representative team
continued their impressive run with a resounding victory over
the Vale of White Horse from
Oxford
on
Saturday.
From the onset Bath
made their attacking intentions clear and it only took 4
minutes for Will Oswin from Newbridge to
open the scoring.
Almost immediately
Alex
Jacobs (St
Mary
’s) could have
doubled the lead after a surge down the left wing by Oswin
presented
Jacobs with an open goal
6 yards out, but the striker shot just over the
bar.
Bath continued
to use the wide pitch to their advantage by feeding Oswin and
Lee Hedges (Chew Valley) down each
flank. Both
players showed great skill in beating their opposing players
and delivered some excellent crosses. However, the next goal
came from just inside the Vale half when Ryan
Moore (Chandag)
struck the ball after a clearance and it flew over Vale’s
stranded goalkeeper and into the roof of the net. Oswin added another to
give
Bath
a 3-0 lead at half
time.
The second half saw the introduction
of a new system and the debuts of three year 5 players,
Robin Harris (Monkton Combe), Harry
Winsley
(Chew Valley), and
Morgan (Frome). The younger players
adapted well and it was to their credit that Bath
could have increased their lead through numerous opportunities
presented to Paris Grappy (WASPS). However, it was the
visitors who were to score the next goal after they attacked
on the break and caught the Bath
defence out of position.
Nevertheless, it proved to be too
little too late for the Vale of White Horse as Bath once again
scored through Bradley Norris (Oldfield Park) in the closing
moments of the match.
Coach
Tim Kirk, "The boys are playing some very entertaining
football at the moment and again we could have scored 7 or
8. I was also
really pleased for the new lads as it is not easy to come into
a new team especially when the players are all older than you,
but they coped magnificently."
"Another player who was excellent
today was Jack Neil (Chandag) and we
presented him with the man of the match award. He played in defence,
midfield and as a striker, which for a boy of his age is not
an easy task.
However, he was excellent and caused all sorts of
problems for the Vale."
