Bath Schools’ V Midwilts Schools’

Score: 7-2

Norris 3, Daniels, Rowlands, Jacobs, Scott

Following a heavy defeat to Bristol City last Wednesday, the new Bath Schools’ side bounced back with a confident display against newly formed Midwilts FA at the University of Bath last night.

Playing their first fixture against county opposition this year, Bath Schools’ fielded a team containing many members of last year’s squad and were confident of getting off to a winning start.  However, it was the visitors who struck first when after 10 minutes Midwilts scored on the counterattack.

It did not take Bath long to respond with Bradley Norris (Oldfield Park Jnr School) scoring almost immediately with an impressive long range strike from 25 yards to level the scoring.  Bath continued to put pressure on the Midwilts defence and it was no surprise when the home side took the lead scoring two goals in quick succession, including a well-taken headed goal from Alex Jacobs (St Mary’s RC School).

With Bath attacking effectively down both wings, it was just reward when the youngest player on the pitch Christian Scott (Kingswood) scored his first goal for Bath Schools’ to increase the lead.

Although the Midwilts side managed to pull a goal back, Bath retained good possession in midfield and created numerous opportunities.  Goals from Harry Daniels (St Stephen’s), Jack Rowlands (St Stephen’s) and another two from the in-form Bradley Norris completed the scoring for Bath.

Coach Tim Kirk, “I was really pleased with the performance today.  It is only the second time they have played together and already they are interchanging and keeping possession like a team which has been together for a long time.  There were good performances from all over the pitch, so we now have to try and maintain this high standard.”
